Anthony Martial explains what went wrong for him at Man Utd

Anthony Martial has confessed that his mind was made up to leave Manchester United even before Ralf Rangnick took control of the team last year.

The 26-year-old, who is now on loan with Sevilla, was embroiled in a war of words with Rangnick before his departure, dismissing claims from his boss that he had refused to be part of the matchday squad.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Martial revealed that Rangnick actually tried to convince him to stay at Old Trafford, but his mind was made up.

"I asked United to leave because I wanted to play"' Martial said. "I still have a contract but they know what I want, so we will see at the end of the season.

"When [Rangnick] arrived, my objective was to leave. I told him I wanted to leave and that's it.

"He talked to me and said, 'if you want to stay, with the way you train you will play if you keep training like that'. But I wanted to have a new atmosphere and a new club."

Martial started just two Premier League games for United before leaving for Sevilla, where he has already started more league matches, and he admitted that all he wanted was some regular minutes.

"For me, it was the best option to play and enjoy football again," Martial continued. "I lost it a little bit in Manchester because I was not playing.

"I feel very good in Sevilla. The city is very good and we are a good team so, for me, it's perfect. I'm playing so I'm happy.

"But I'm here just until the end of the season and that's it."
