As if Stevens didn’t have enough to be getting on with. From the Telegraph:

Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner, is a front-runner to head the Premier League's inquiry into alleged illegal payments in English football.

The 20 Premiership club chairmen meet tomorrow to discuss appointing the man who will lead the probe into a series of claims that the beautiful game is riddled with illicit transfer payments.

A list of 10 names has been drawn up by the League's chief executive, Richard Scudamore, and will be put to the clubs at tomorrow's meeting.
Stevens is thought to be one of the names on that list, which also includes a retired judge and an eminent QC.

Stevens, who retired in 2005 after five years in charge at Scotland Yard, is favoured by those who believe that the inquiry needs a former policeman to get to grips with any 'bung' culture.
