Ashley Young's Move to Inter in Doubt With Nerazzurri Closing on Roma Star

Manchester United captain Ashley Young's potential move to Inter appears to be in doubt, with Antonio Conte's side closing in on a deal for Roma's Leonardo Spinazzola instead.

The 34-year-old had already agreed a contract with Inter ahead of a free transfer and was even rumoured to be pushing for a January switch to the Nerazzurri

But the move has yet to be finalised and now, according to Sky Sport Italia, the deal may never be completed - with Inter looking to conclude a deal for Spinazzola that would involve forward Matteo Politano going the other way.

Offloading Politano is thought to be one of Inter's top priorities this winter. Not only would it free up funds, but it would also leave space in the squad to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, whom Conte is keen to sign.

The chance to part ways with Politano and bolster both sides of his defence, because of Spinazzola's versatility, appears to have been too good to turn down.

Spinazzola would almost certainly play a major role in Inter's side, meaning there would likely be no place for Young, while Inter's interest in Chelsea's Marcos Alonso could also come to an end as well.

Young, meanwhile, has rejected the offer of a new contract at United and had been keen to head over to Italy. But he may be forced to backtrack if Inter do withdraw their interest, though it's unclear whether or not he would still have an offer on the table from the Red Devils.

He has managed 18 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season, mainly featuring on the right hand side of defence, Teenager Brandon Williams is now ahead of Young in the left-back pecking order, allowing him to focus on one role.

A move away from Old Trafford is certainly still a possibility - especially if rumours of a potential strike are true - but it appears as though United would prefer to keep him around for a little while longer.
