The BBC report:

'Fabien Barthez insists he will not play for Nantes again after being attacked by a fan after his side's defeat at the weekend. The 2-0 home defeat by Rennes left Nantes bottom of Ligue 1 and the ex-Manchester United star, 35, was targeted driving out of the ground. "I will not play for Nantes again," Barthez told French radio France Info. "This has got nothing to do with football. I no longer feel safe there and it's better for me to leave."

'Nantes are eight points from safety with only four games to go and are all-but certain to be relegated for the first time in their history. Barthez had come out of retirement in January to help their cause but has struggled to have the desired impact. His car was kicked by a group of fans as he left the Beaujoire stadium on Saturday. One fan tried to open his car door and then Barthez got out of his car before the pair were involved in a tussle, which had to be broken up by security staff.'
