Bayern Munich submit opening offer for Ajax talent Ryan Gravenberch

Bayern Munich are thought to have made an early summer offer for highly-rated Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch as they attempt to land the teenage Dutchman ahead of next season.

Making his permanent senior breakthrough in 2020, Gravenberch is part of Ajax’s latest impressive generation of young talents, stepping up into the first-team following the departures of midfielders like Frenkie de Jong and Donny van de Beek.

The 19-year-old finished in the top 20 of the 2021 Golden Boy award and is going from strength to strength this season. He anchored Ajax’s midfield during six back-to-back wins in the Champions League group stage and is an automatic starter in the Eredivisie, with the Amsterdam giants going for a third consecutive Dutch league title.

That form has not gone unnoticed among Europe’s biggest clubs and De Telegraaf has reported that Bayern have submitted an initial offer worth €25m ahead of the summer transfer window. For now, that is short of Ajax’s valuation of €35m, which suggests there is more negotiating to be done.

Gravenberch only has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2023, so a sale this summer would ensure they could still command a handsome fee unless he is willing to snub interest from elsewhere and commit his longer-term future to the club.

Bayern may have taken the first step but they are not the only side watching Gravenberch.

90min revealed last week that Manchester United had a senior scouting presence in Amsterdam for the Champions League clash between Ajax and Benfica.

Their primary reason to attend was to watch Ajax winger Antony in action, but Gravenberch and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez were also the subject of detailed reports.
