The 23 year old arrived from Vitesse Arnhem for £3.9million and was expecting to be used sparingly as he was eased into the side.
But the Dutchman was off to a winner when he scored on his debut against Wigan and has been a regular ever since.
He told Sky Sports News: "I have played more than I had expected. New players tend to be gradually brought into the team at United.
"It is great to be on the training ground with such fantastic player's everyday. It really improves you as a player."
