Carlos Queiroz quoted in Spanish newspaper Marca said:
"We are very excited by his signing because we now have four world class strikers. With Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Saha and Smith we have no reason to envy Real.
"There is no denying Madrid's strikers are some of the best in the world. Our forwards are different but they are footballers of inspiration and talent who can play at a high level.
"We have built a young and talented team. It is balanced and we have placed the foundations for the next 10 years. My main objective is to help make United the best team in the world."
Meanwhile Madrid President Florentino Perez has reacted to reported complaints by Carlos that he would have won the league if given the same freedom to sign defenders as has been afforded the new man in charge at Real. Perez said,
"Giving Queiroz a contract was a mistake. He was given the job because of his work in the past with great young players in Portugal. But the reasons for which we brought him in were not delivered."
