Cristiano Ronaldo left out of Man Utd squad vs Man City

Cristiano Ronaldo has not been included in Manchester United's matchday squad for their derby with Manchester City on Sunday.

Rumours of an injury have done the rounds over the weekend, with reports coming through before the game revealing the Portugal international is out with a hip problem having been driven home from training on Friday.

He is not the only major United star missing, either.

Defenders Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw have both tested positive for Covid-19, meaning Harry Maguire partners Victor Lindelof at centre back with Alex Telles on the left.

Edinson Cavani is also absent again, with interim head coach Ralf Rangnick opting for Anthony Elanga, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho as his attacking players. Marcus Rashford, United's only player with tested experience in a striker role, is on the bench.

As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has again rung the changes following their win at Peterborough in the FA Cup. Aymeric Laporte and John Stones come in at the back, while Phil Foden has replaced Gabriel Jesus in attack.

City can again go six points clear of second-place Liverpool with a victory on Sunday as they look to retain their Premier League crown, while United are looking to stay in the hunt for a top-four spot on a weekend where both West Ham and Wolves lost.
