CU**LY PETE WANTS TO BE LOVED

Referring to the Mikel saga: "We have been dragged into this on the basis that the player wants to come to us.

"If all that gets sorted out, and he becomes available, we would like to sign him."

Kenyon says he was none too impressed when David Gill, handed him a legal letter about Mikel in the OT boardroom. "It is not the way you do things. I remember when we were all grown up and picked up the phone. Things have become too litigious." He hopes Gill will call. "That would be good for everybody."

Kenyon insisted Chelsea do not want the 'arrogant' tag they have picked up in recent times.

"I don't think we want to be seen as arrogant, we don't consciously go out there to be controversial.

"We would be disappointed if that was a tag that stuck. There are certain people who would take great pleasure in being hated but we would rather be liked than disliked. But equally we are committed to making Chelsea one of the very best clubs in Europe."

Kenyon also spoke about the various tapping up claims, (Eriksson, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole etc etc):

"We didn't set out to create those headlines; being in a restaurant, whether it's Sven, whether it's Ashley, you wouldn't want to do that again.

"But that wasn't through arrogance, that's always the justification, really, if you pull it off. From that point of view if we were arrogant we would say we are not bothered and we're not sorry.

"I don't think we want to be seen as arrogant, we don't consciously go out there to be controversial

"Well, actually, we are bothered and we'd rather they hadn't occurred.

"Everybody likes to be loved, don't they?

"The world is littered with people who have got money and won nothing. There is all this talk about Chelsea dominating and killing football, but you only have to look at Manchester United's domination - which I am glad to say I was part of [as chief executive] - and Chelsea are not even close."
