David de Gea set for a major return to Spain

Real Madrid are eyeing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea as a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas ? according to The Daily Mail.

Jorge Mendes, de Gea's agent ? has strong links with Real Madrid. In fact, he is also the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho. Mourinho is confident he can use his links to Mendes to sanction a deal for the United goalkeeper ? who is believed to be 'home sick'.

David de Gea has looked incredibly impressive during some points in his Manchester United career ? however he has started slow this season. His performance against Fulham saw him dropped for Anders Lindegaard ? but he has re-established himself in Ferguson's first team plans, for now.

Ferguson is contempt with his rotation policy ? believing that it will benefit both goalkeepers who currently have little experience in The Barclays Premier League.

Reigning goalkeeper at Real Madrid Iker Casillas is only 31 ? and has plenty of top flight years ahead of him. However ? Casillas has previously dubbed de Gea his 'natural successor'. With his eye of the National team shirt and potentially Real Madrid's, de Gea will no doubt be tempted by a return to Spain.

At 21 years old, it is no surprise that de Gea is finding life at Manchester United difficult.

He said: ?I don't believe I have been at the top in the last couple of months but with each game I am rediscovering my level.?

Sir Alex Ferguson signed the young David de Gea for ?18.3million last summer. A young goalkeeper with an undoubted potential ? Ferguson should demand a huge fee if he is too sell his future number one to Real Madrid.
