Dean Henderson Wants One Condition Met Before Signing New Man Utd Contract

Dean Henderson will only be prepared to sign a new Manchester United contract if he is promised the number one spot.

The 23-year-old has spent two hugely successful years on loan at Sheffield United, helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign and playing an integral part in their unexpected surge towards the European places this season.

Henderson's performances have seen him billed as capable of rivalling David de Gea for a starting spot at United next season - but he has also been linked with a £50m move to Chelsea.

The goalkeeper signed a new contract with United in 2019 that keeps him at the club until 2022, but as previously reported by 90min, the Red Devils are prepared to offer him improved terms to ward off interest.

However, the Manchester Evening News say that Henderson will only commit to the new deal if he is promised a starting spot with United next season.

The report states that Henderson has been 'inundated' with offers for next season, but he does not expect United to sell him as there is the possibility he could be their first-choice keeper.

Henderson's Sheffield United performances mean he is not short of admirers

The Englishman has put pen to paper on improved terms with United during the last two summers following loan spells with Shrewsbury in 2017/18, and Sheffield United the season after.

However, he has intentionally agreed short deals in order to keep his options open.

First choice keeper de Gea signed a four-year deal with United in September, which runs until the summer of 2023, while current number two Sergio Romero's contract runs until 2021.

The scrutiny on De Gea returned once more following United's 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Friday. Errors have been steadily creeping into the Spaniard's game all season, and he failed to hold onto Steven Bergwijn's strike 27 minutes in as Spurs took the lead - much to the frustration of Roy Keane.
