Diogo Dalot to stay at Man Utd despite Borussia Dortmund interest

Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot is expected to stay at the club, despite Borussia Dortmund agreeing a deal with the Red Devils.

Despite showing initial promise when he first arrived at the club, Dalot has failed to establish himself under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was frozen out and spent last season on loan at AC Milan. A positive pre-season offered hope of a role this season, but United were prepared to let him go.

A report from Sky Germany revealed that an agreement between United and Dortmund was struck on Friday. The arrangement would have seen Dalot initially move to Germany on loan this season, with an obligation to buy inserted into the deal for next summer.

However, Manchester Evening News reported on Saturday that such a deal had not been agreed and that Dalot will remain at the club beyond the deadline.

United had been hoping to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid this summer, but this now looks unlikely. The 31-year-old is keen on a return home to England after spending the last two years in Spain, helping Los Rojiblancos win La Liga last season. But Atletico have stood firm over their valuation.

United thought they might be able to land Trippier for as a little as £10m, only for Atletico to ask for more almost three times as much. Talks stalled as a result, although The Athletic reported that Dortmund’s interest in Dalot had kickstarted the negotiations for Trippier before quickly dissipating again.
