Eric Bailly Gives Update on His Condition After Head Injury Against Chelsea

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has confirmed that he is fine and in good health following a nasty clash of heads with teammate Harry Maguire, which came only moments after an earlier clash of heads with Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

Bailly initially refused a stretcher after the latter incident, which drew blood from both players, only to then go down at the side at the pitch. From there, he was loaded onto a stretcher and given oxygen before being taken to hospital for tests.

Bailly was placed in a neck brace and stretchered off

Maguire suffered only a minor cut and briefly sported a head bandage in first-half stoppage time. He no longer needed the dressing for the second half and took it off at the interval.

There was more concern over Bailly, but the Ivory Coast international has now said it was ‘just a scare’ and that he is in good condition. He said that he is hurting more about the game’s result, which saw Chelsea advance to this season’s FA Cup final to face Arsenal.

“Thank you for all the messages of support” Bailly tweeted on Monday afternoon.

“I am ok, it was just a scare. I feel the pain of yesterday’s defeat even more. But we have to get back up and refocus on the two big games we have this week.”

Having played only a handful of times all season due to injury, Bailly was drafted in for the Wembley semi-final as a result of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer adopting a back-three system.

It is unlikely the Norwegian will keep the same formation when United host West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with a chance to leapfrog Leicester into the top four. Victory would also at least temporarily see United go third ahead of Chelsea, who face Liverpool later on.
