Evra, who also collected a £15,000 fine, is alleged to have been involved in a fracas with Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell after United's 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on 26th April.

The United defender's suspension will begin on 22nd December although the club have issued a statement in which they suggest they may appeal the ban which was issued after a two-day hearing in London.

"Manchester United note the announcement from the FA and are disappointed with the decision and in particular consider the sanctions against Patrice Evra excessive," the statement on the club's official website reads.

"Manchester United and Patrice will consider all options once there has been an opportunity to digest the full reasons for the decision.

"There will be no further comment."
