FAB TAKES IT IN THE CHIN BUT PIRES STICKS HIS OAR IN

Barthez quoted in French sports daily L'Equipe on Friday.

'It's up to me to do what is required. It is not the coach who puts the ball at the forward's feet, nor the journalists who slip up, it's me,

But he said his relationship with Fergie was 'perfect'.

'The only thing is I don't play. But I know everything can happen,' he said, adding that he had a good relationship with Howard, Carroll and goalkeeping coach Tony Coton.

'So every day I prepare myself to play the next weekend and everytime I believe I will,' Barthez said. 'Otherwise, I would drop everything. And I don't like to lose.'

Various sources are tipping Barthez to move to either Paris St Germain or Marseille and PSG's Chairman, Francis Graille says that Barthez is unhappy in Manchester and wants to move to the French capital.

"There were contacts made which were at the player's request, yes," said Graille.

"But we're going to need many favourable circumstances for it to come off.

"Finding an agreement seems to be rather difficult and we're not there yet."

And for some reason Robert Pires seems he has to say something:

"There must have been an argument between Fabien and Ferguson," Pires told the News of the World.

"For Ferguson to subject him to travelling for nothing would be a humiliation after all Fabien has done for United.

"It's a trick situation and, knowing Fabien he will have done some straight talking.

"They must have had an argument."
