Ferdinand focuses more on setbacks

The £29.1million defender made his claim in an MUTV documentary: Ryan and Rio: Carrington Revealed - to be screened on Thursday evening in which they show Countdown presenter, and keen United fan, Rachel Riley around the plush state-of-the-art training complex.

Ferdinand never made any secret of his desperation to win trophies when he arrived from Leeds in what was then a British record transfer in 2002. But having amassed four Premier League titles and a European Cup in an expanding collection, the 31-year-old confirms they are not the days he remembers most.

"Moscow was a great experience but I would have to say the best thing I won was my first league title in 2003," he said.

"When I began my career at West Ham, I used to think 'please let me win a medal.

That was it. But it is actually the times you lose that stay with you the most. Beating Chelsea in Moscow was a great experience but the memories of losing to Barcelona in Rome 12 months later are far more vivid."
