Alex Ferguson could axe Mikael Silvestre after the French defender said he would consider leaving Old Trafford for another club if they offered him the chance of playing at centre-back, his preferred position.
Silvestre, who has a year left on his existing deal, said: "I want to stay at Manchester of course but I am convinced that if a big club were offering me the chance to play at my favourite position, I would seriously think about leaving.
"I am taking it well now but at the start it was hard to cope with. I guess my job at the moment is to show I am capable of playing in both positions. I have got used to it."
