"Chelsea will have to collapse but we must still focus on our own performances and collect as much as we can.

"We want to play like we did in the first half here and see what happens. In a league of this nature, with the competitiveness of it, you will drop points but you have to recover. We just have to hope Chelsea have a bad spell."

United have flopped at Portsmouth in recent years and Ferguson demanded that the team focussed on winning the match.

"We had a job to do. Our record here in the last two years has been terrible - we haven't scored a goal - so the important thing was to win the game. What we want to do is win matches and if that takes us to a higher position then we can keep it going and it will give us a chance.”

Ferguson
is pleased with the form of Ronaldo and wants him to get more goals:

"It was an incredible goal from Ronaldo. The boy is capable of that. He scored two goals last week and two this week - that is terrific going. He is capable of 15-20 goals a season.”
