Gary Neville Draws Comparisons Between Man Utd & Liverpool Tactics Following Red Devils Spurs Win

Gary Neville has revealed he believes Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to mastermind victory over Tottenham by 'watching' Liverpool's win against the London side.

United ran out 1-0 winners against Tottenham on Sunday courtesy of a fine goal from Marcus Rashford and an inspired performance from David de Gea, but Neville believes the Red Devils took inspiration from Liverpool's 2-1 win at Wembley back in September.

Jurgen Klopp's side dominated the match with the Reds wingers having plenty of joy finding space behind Spurs' full-backs Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier - a tactic Solskjaer also implemented to good effect, according to Neville.

The ex-Valencia boss was speaking following United's win (as quoted by The Mirror) when he stated: "It reminded me so much of the Liverpool game earlier in the season at Wembley when

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane got in down the sides of the Tottenham centre-backs.

"It looked to me like Solskjaer had watched that game and thought that's where I can hurt them. It was clever. He proved in that first-half that he can live in a big game against a big manager and a big team."

Neville was also quick to state the importance of United's victory with many suggesting this was Solskjaer's first 'real test' of his reign following his interim appointment last month.

"In terms of the test, he's absolutely passed this test with flying colours. It's such a huge win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this group of Manchester United players. It feels like a million miles away from where this club was a month ago."

Victory over Spurs means United have now won their first six games under the stewardship of Solskjaer and are just six points behind Chelsea, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
