HAPPY BIRTHDAY

So the official site gave him some really trying questions to give us more insight in to his character. As if!

Favourite United memory
It's very difficult to just pick out one, because there were several games which were special. I think the one that stands out, and that was in the early days, was the 1963 FA Cup final. I think it was every player's dream, at that stage, to play in a Cup final, to play at Wembley, to be in a team that won the FA Cup, because that was the glamour one [trophy]. The league was a long slog, but the FA Cup final would probably be one of the outstanding moments.

Favourite player
My favourite has always been Alfredo di Stefano. He played for the great Real Madrid team who went on to win the European Cup five consecutive times during the 50's. He and Puskas were the best players I ever saw play; they were my heroes. I was fortunate enough to get the chance to play alongside both of them for the Rest of the World team that faced England in the FA Centenary match in 1963. That is an honour I've cherished all my life.

On Ruud breaking his European goalscoring record
Records are there to be broken and I was delighted for him, particularly as he's such a lovely guy. I didn't know I had the record to tell you the truth, so it's not something that’s bothered me one bit. Ruud's a player that chases lost causes and you think 'he'll never get that', but he does. He’s an excellent player and a good lad too, so I don't mind him beating the record.

On Wayne Rooney
Rooney will be a star for many, many years and I believe if he carries on as he has done he'll break every record going. If he keeps free from injury, he'll break records at Old Trafford, he'll break records in Europe and in international football. He's got a lovely touch and he's very strong. Players like him don't come around very often, so United are very fortunate to have a player of that calibre, as are England.
On George Best – the player
George was an excellent trainer, probably one of the hardest trainers at the club. I was never a good trainer, I just wanted to play football on a Saturday. When you play alongside some of the greatest players in the world like Bestie, it's easy. He was a bit frustrating at times and I think he caused a few of my knee and ankle injuries really because you would go for a ball but Bestie wouldn't give you it so you had to go back again (smiles). So he was a bit frustrating at times, but as a player, he was fantastic.

Best United team
It's very difficult to make comparisons (between teams from different eras), when the time-limit is so vast. The team we had in the 1960s was excellent: good defenders, good attacking players and good midfielders. And I believe that team of players, if we could all keep our age (smiles), would still be a team of great players now. Even the Cup-winning side from 1948 would be a great team if they came into today's world, so it's very difficult to say who's better. The 1968 side was an excellent one and the 1999 team as well, you can’t argue against that.
