Harry Maguire believes Erik ten Hag will bring 'positive energy' to Man Utd

Harry Maguire is confident that Erik ten Hag's appointment as manager will bring a renewed 'positive energy' to Manchester United.

United endured their worst ever Premier League season last time out, narrowly securing a top-six finish despite losing to Crystal Palace on the final day.

Ralf Rangnick took over the managerial reins until the end of the season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November, but he failed to improve the Red Devils' fortunes.

United will be hoping that his replacement, Ten Hag, fares better, and captain Maguire is confident that the Dutchman will have a positive effect on the club.

"It’s been a tough campaign, no hiding away from that. It was a disappointing season individually and as a group," he told the club's website.

"Football’s my life. I care about the club so much. I care about winning matches and taking the club to where it should be, where the fans deserve it to be.

"I’m sure on the first day of pre-season, everybody will be buzzing around, doing their best to impress and coming back in shape. We have a big season ahead," he added.

"We know we are going to improve because last season was nowhere near good enough. The new manager will bring positive energy and the lads will go with that."

Maguire had a poor personal season and there were murmurings that he could be moved on in the summer, however 90min understands that this is not feasible.

That does not mean that United are uninterested in strengthening at the back, though. Ten Hag is eager for the club to push forward with a deal to sign Pau Torres, while Ajax's Jurrien Timber is another target - but that move looks increasingly unlikely.
