How Man Utd players and legends reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo's return

What a rollercoaster 48 hours it's been for Manchester United fans.

Supporters went to bed on Thursday night fearing that Cristiano Ronaldo was going to do the unthinkable and join bitter rivals Man City. By 5pm on Friday, he was a Red Devil once again.

After 12 years away, Ronaldo is finally heading home. To put the cherry on the cake, he has taken the honour of 'most incredible transfer story ever' away from Lionel Messi only a few weeks after the Argentine left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain.

The football world went into overdrive on Friday, including everyone involved at Man Utd (because why the hell wouldn't they). Here's the best reactions from United players and legends alike...

Marcus Rashford

A boyhood United fan, Rashford grew up watching Ronaldo tear defences apart at Old Trafford. And now he'll get to play alongside him.

Dreams do come true.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes had been in constant contact with Ronaldo regarding a return to Old Trafford, and was quick to claim the assist for the transfer.

Is this mic on?

He then posted a cartoon depicting himself as a child idolising Ronaldo while at United. Dreams do come tr- hey wait a minute.

Jadon Sancho

A rather niche reference. The rough translation reads as: 'Lol, we're going to score so many goals'.

Jesse Lingard

When Varane joined United earlier this month, he surely wouldn't have known that he would be linking up with Ronaldo again. Go back another month and United fans couldn't have possibly dreamt of landing either of them, let alone both.

Juan Mata

There are people who have the phone number of the nicest man in football and don't text him? What a travesty.

Rio Ferdinand

Boy oh boy did Rio Ferdinand have a field day.

While most of the world was expecting Ronaldo to head to City, Ferdinand turned full Twitter ITK.

Within a couple of hours, the transfer saga had turned on its head and Ronaldo was heading to United...

And it's fair to say Ferdinand is still on this Ronaldo high. Just an inkling.

Patrice Evra

Serial showman Patrice Evra loves a good Twitter-storm, and he showed the world his WhatsApp conversations with Ronaldo prior to the move being announced.

He simply loves this game.
