Former Republic of Ireland manager Jack Charlton has revealed he played a part in Roy Keane's transfer from Nottingham Forest to Manchester United back in 1993.
"I got Roy to Manchester United," said Charlton. "Alex called me at the time and asked what I thought about Roy Keane. I told Alex to get him bought.
"He said Forest wanted too much money and I said in another year or two you will be able to flog him off to Europe for four of five times that.
"I told Alex that had got an engine on him like you would never believe and that he would run all day. The next day United went out and bought him."
