Jesse Lingard upset at Man Utd for blocking January loan deal

Jesse Lingard is far from happy with Manchester United after they refused to sanction a deadline day move, 90min understands.

The England midfielder has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford all window long and his contract expires at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Newcastle and West Ham - where Lingard excelled in the second half of last campaign - have been interested in a deal for the 29-year-old, and it looked like he was going to be granted a January exit earlier on deadline day.

But 90min has been told that Man Utd will not allow Lingard to leave this window after all and he will remain at the club for the rest of the season.

United confirmed on Sunday that Mason Greenwood, who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, will not return to first-team activities for the time being. This unexpected absence has resulted in the need for Lingard to remain at the club.

Newcastle's loan offer for Lingard remains on the table in case Man Utd have a last minute change of heart.

Lingard ideally wants to wait until the summer to decide his long-term future, but has been frustrated by broken promises made to him at United and was open to moving on deadline day in order to regain match sharpness.

He also has hopes of breaking back into the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
