Jesse Lingard Won't Be Forced Out at Man Utd as Red Devils Even Consider Contract Extension

Exclusive - Jesse Lingard will not be forced out of Manchester United against his will this summer, while the Red Devils could even trigger a 12-month contract extension keeping him at Old Trafford until 2022.

The 27-year-old has played a bit-part role for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season, with the lion's share of his 35 appearances coming from the bench.

He has also endured a downturn in form since impressing at the 2018 World Cup - famously not registering a single Premier League goal or assist during 2019 and only racking up four goal involvements during the current campaign.

With United confident of signing Jadon Sancho in the summer and Jack Grealish also firmly on their radar, it had seemed that Lingard's United career may be coming to an end. He was even offered to Leicester in January as makeweight in a deal that would have brought James Maddison to Old Trafford.

However, a source has told 90min that the England international will not be hounded out of the club if he does not want to leave. Lingard currently has one year left on his current deal, though United have the option of extending this by 12 months - something which remains under consideration.

With Lingard apparently keen to stay at his boyhood club, it appears that the club will exercise this right with Solskjaer willing to give him the chance to prove his worth to the team.

Lingard is close friends with Marcus Rashford and transfer target Sancho and he is understood to have played his part in talking up a move to Manchester with the Borussia Dortmund star.

If the former Birmingham City loanee does opt to remain with his boyhood club he is likely to have to accept more of a squad role. Should he decide that he wants to chance his arm elsewhere, there would be no shortage of potential suitors.

Newcastle, Everton and West Ham are all keeping tabs on the situation, along with Leicester who maintain an interest.
