On 5 May 2002 under the headline "Veron storms out" we alleged that Juan Sebastian Veron had stormed off from Manchester United and had flown to Rome with his family for transfer talks with Lazio, refusing to come back following a bust-up with his fellow team-mates after the Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen.
We now accept that he did not go to Rome as reported or at all at this stage and Mr Veron and Manchester United have assured us that there was no bust-up with his team-mates, he did not vow never to play for the club again and has never been in transfer talks with Lazio.
