Jurrien Timber reacts to Man Utd rumours & Erik ten Hag's exit

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has heaped praise on soon-to-be Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag but dismissed rumours that he could follow his boss to Old Trafford this summer.

Ten Hag has been tipped to bring some of his favourite Ajax players with him at the end of the season and 20-year-old Timber, who has been a near-permanent fixture at the Johan Cruyff Arena this year, has been touted as one of Ten Hag's preferred targets.

Asked by Het Parool whether he would be interested in following his fellow Dutchman to United, Timber insisted he is more than happy continuing his learning at Ajax.

"I'm good at Ajax," he said. "I can still learn a lot, especially if we continue to play in the Champions League."

Despite cooling rumours of a future link-up with Ten Hag, Timber had nothing but praise for the boss and admitted it's about time he was given such a high-profile move.

“He deserved it," Timber said. "Ten Hag has been very important to me personally.

"Under him I became the footballer, the man I am today. The coach talked to me a lot. He's been very critical, in a good, constructive way. I won't forget that anytime soon."

As far as Ten Hag's targets go, 90min understands that United are one of several Premier League sides who have been keeping a close eye on perhaps the Eredivisie side's most valuable asset, 22-year-old Brazil winger Antony.
