Kylian Mbappe & Raphael Varane injured in France's shock Nations League defeat

Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane were both subbed off with injuries in France's shock UEFA Nations League defeat to Denmark on Friday evening.

France had taken the lead in the game at Stade de France thanks to Karim Benzema (who else?) before Andreas Cornelius scored a late brace to earn the Danes a surprising victory in their Nations League opener.

During the first half of the game Mbappe looked to be struggling with an injury, and fears of an ailment were confirmed at half-time when the PSG star was replaced by Christopher Nkunku.

Speaking after the game, France's assistant coach Guy Stephan revealed that Mbappe had suffered a knee injury: "Kylian has a knee issue. I don’t know the exact nature of it, he’s going to undergo medical exams."

Stephan also discussed Varane's substitution, revealing that he'd also been taken off due to injury: "Raphael has a muscular problem behind the thigh. He felt some pain. He’s also going to take medical exams as well."

This is Varane's sixth separate injury issue since joining Manchester United last summer. The defender missed a whopping 17 of the Red Devils' games in 2021/22 and they notably struggled in his absence - enduring their worst Premier League season in the club's history.
