"I didn't do that but I tried my best. I dedicate that performance to my little boy, although I don't want to tell you his name. That's my privacy. It was very hard for me to go out and play. I'm choking. It's been so hard. I wasn't told until just after the game against Egypt and I had to come back quick. I haven't found it easy sleeping for the last week or so.

"I believe God gives and God takes and I've been trying so hard to put it behind me and try to focus on football. He was an innocent boy and I will love him always but he's in good hands. It was my decision to play because when I'm at home I just keep thinking about it all so I need to keep myself occupied. This is my job so I've just got to get on with it. But I want to say it was nice to get the opposition coming to me. That shows it's not just about football. For 90 minutes we might be enemies but we're human beings and we care about each other. They all wore black armbands and I really appreciated that gesture. It meant a lot."
