Stuart Pearce has claimed that Manchester City must follow the lead of rivals United if they are to achieve their top-six aim next season:

"You cannot sit back and say we've got the finished team. Just look at Alex Ferguson. Our training ground is only half a mile away from United's and if you ever want a yardstick, you just have to see the way he operates.

"When you think he has got just the right team, he goes out and buys Ruud van Nistelrooy. So Kevin Keegan is looking to strengthen all the time, in all positions.'

"The one thing about Kevin Keegan is that he is not prepared to sit and settle for anything bar the top place in the league. Some people might say it's a bit far-sighted to try and knock the Manchester Uniteds and Arsenals off the top spots but I respect that.”
