Man Utd 2022/23 home kit: New image confirms 1990s throwback

New images of Manchester United’s 2022/23 home shirt have surfaced online ahead of its official release, seeming to confirm previous leaks of a throwback design to the club’s famous treble shirt.

A picture seen on a camera screen that has been shared on social media shows a distinct vintage 1990s vibe, complete with white collar and crested badge.

It appears to draw inspiration from the club’s domestic home kit worn between 1998 and 2000 and the European kit used from 1997 until 2000, both of which featured prominently during the unprecedented successes of the club’s 1998/99 treble season.

Black trademark adidas stripes on the shoulders complete the look.

American software firm TeamViewer returns as the front of shirt sponsor, with DXC Technology - another American IT company - replacing kitchen and bathroom company Kohler as sleeve sponsor.

United’s 2021/22 set of kits were also designed with throwback themes in mind. The red home shirt was created as a tribute to the jerseys of the 1960s worn by the likes of Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law. The blue and white away shirt was a nod to a similar jersey worn from 1990 to 1992, as is the blue and black third kit for a change strip worn in the early Premier League era.

The 2022/23 campaign stands to usher in a new era at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag has already been appointed new permanent manager, with significant player turnover expected in the summer and ongoing changes in the club hierarchy, including the resignation of chief negotiator Matt Judge.
