Man Utd Awaiting Victor Lindelof Injury Update Ahead of Aston Villa Clash

Manchester United are awaiting news on whether centre-back Victor Lindelof will be fit enough to return to the starting XI for Thursday night’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The Swede’s availability for the game at Villa Park is currently unclear after he was substituted at half-time during the recent 5-2 win over Bournemouth as a result of a back problem.

Lindelof has been a regular starter next to Harry Maguire in 2019/20

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said after the game, which was United’s 16th consecutive outing unbeaten in a run stretching back to January, that he hoped Lindelof’s injury was not a bad one.

“He struggled with his back but hopefully won't be too bad,” was Solskjaer’s assessment immediately after the game when speaking in front of BT Sport’s cameras.

That at least leaves the door open for a swift return against Villa.

Fifth place United will be looking to get another win in that one in order to keep the pressure on Chelsea and Leicester, in fourth and third respectively, in the hunt for guaranteed Champions League places – fifth might yet be good enough, but only if Manchester City lose their CAS appeal.

Man Utd are unbeaten in 16 games in all competitions

Eric Bailly came on in Lindelof’s place and got his best Premier League run out since the restart, having only previously played the closing moments of the recent draw with Tottenham.

He was unfortunate to give away a controversial penalty after being deemed to be guilty of handball when he attempted to control the ball with his chest and shoulder, just inside the penalty area.

United went on to win the game anyway and it still provided important minutes for Bailly, who missed the entire first half of the season while recovering from knee surgery.

The Ivory Coast international has been a popular figure among United fans since his 2016 arrival due to his aggressive style of defending. But injury problems have plagued him and he’s played fewer than 50 times since the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

Eric Bailly is back from a lengthy injury absence

Lindelof has been the preferred centre-back partner for club captain Harry Maguire this season, although Solskjaer is alleged to have told Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake on Saturday that United are on the lookout for a new left-footed centre-back that would bring more balance to the team.
