United currently have seven players due to be out of contract at the end of this season, including much talked about talents Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong.
In theory, all seven are currently permitted to talk with overseas clubs about a possible pre-contract agreement for a free transfer in the summer. However, United would be expected to trigger extension clauses with Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, even if only to ensure they can command a transfer fee.
The club doesn’t have that luxury with Gomes or Chong.

Paul Pogba’s Old Trafford future has been the source of much speculation and will continue to be so in the coming months and possibly years. Real Madrid remain heavily linked, although United can at least extend his current deal to 2022 to protect themselves against a falling value.

David de Gea opted to pledge his best years to United when he at last signed a new contract in September. The Spaniard will be only a few months shy of his 34th birthday by the time this deal expires if the club triggers the optional extension to 2024.
The summer of 2023 is when the bulk of the squad has a contract to, although fans will question how Phil Jones is in the same boat as De Gea, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

United handed summer signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James long-term deal until at least 2024, while Victor Lindelof signed a new contract as recently as September. But the big news was tying down Anthony Martial to fresh terms after a rollercoaster few years.

No player at United currently has a longer contract than £80m summer signing Harry Maguire, whose deal promises to keep him at Old Trafford at least the next four-and-a-half years. Sadly, the 26-year-old has so far fallen short of expectations since that record transfer.
