Man Utd players want Mauricio Pochettino as next manager

Mauricio Pochettino is an increasingly popular choice to be the next Manchester United manager among the club's current squad.

90min reported back in November that Pochettino would be the Red Devils' preferred choice to step into the role currently held by Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis.

Their search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent successor is now stepping up, following the long-awaited departure of Ed Woodward at the end of last month.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, if United do swoop in for Pochettino his appointment would be welcomed in the dressing room. Their report states that 'notable' parts of the squad would be in favour of the Argentine taking over, and 90min understands he will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

He is not the only candidate being considered, though. Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has worked wonders in Amsterdam over the past few seasons, is another target. His long-term working partner, sporting director Marc Overmars, recently left his role following a string of sexual misconduct allegations.

Brendan Rodgers, Julen Lopetegui, Roberto Mancini and Luis Enrique have been linked in the past too, but they would likely be outsider candidates at this stage.

Recruiting a new manager is not the only task on United's to-do list this summer. There is also a spate of first-team players out of contract at the end of the season, while David de Gea's long-term future is also something that needs clarifying. 90min exclusively revealed earlier on Thursday that the club is ready to open talks with the Spaniard over a new contract.
