Man Utd vs Southampton: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Manchester United and Southampton go head to head in the Premier League this weekend when they meet at Old Trafford.

United stumbled to a 1-1 draw against bottom club Burnley last time out, hardly the tonic that Ralf Rangnick's team needed after embarrassingly being knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough in the fourth round only a few days earlier.

Southampton, meanwhile, are doing well. They got through in the FA Cup and have taken four points from recent Premier League fixtures against Manchester City and Tottenham.

This is everything you need to know about the game...

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy remains sidelined, but Moussa Djenepo was back on the bench in midweek after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Man Utd vs Southampton head to head record

Southampton have not beaten Manchester United in the Premier League since successive 1-0 wins at Old Trafford in 2015 and 2016.

However, of the 12 meetings in all competitions since then - including the 2017 Carabao Cup final, only six have ended in United victories. The other six have all been draws, with the reverse fixture at St Mary's earlier this season among them (1-1).

Games between these clubs have resulted in several famous moments over the years. Southampton thrashed United 6-3 at The Dell in October 1996, while the previous season Alex Ferguson's United changed shirts at half-time during a 3-1 defeat.

There was also Massimo Taibi's howler in 1999 and Southampton's FA Cup final win in 1976, but the last time the Saints played at Old Trafford they lost 9-0.

Man Utd vs Southampton score prediction

Southampton have the edge when it comes to form and confidence here and will fancy their chances against a United side really struggling to put together complete performances.

Rangnick's team have been guilty of failing to take chances in recent weeks, which has left them vulnerable because they have become too weak defensively to get by on 1-0 wins.

Namesake Ralph Hasenhuttl will send out a well drilled Southampton side and, given their proven ability to take points from this fixture, a draw or better could be on the cards for them.

Prediction: Man Utd 1-1 Southampton
