Manchester United announce Jesse Lingard departure

Manchester United have announced academy product Jesse Lingard will leave the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

Having shone on loan at West Ham during the 2020/21 season, Lingard failed to have any impact back at Old Trafford last term as he was often overlooked by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The England international follows Paul Pogba through the exit door, with the Frenchman's departure announced earlier on Wednesday.

Lingard's departure at the end of June will bring to an end his 21-year association with the club. During that time he made 232 appearances and found the back of the net on 35 occasions.

In a statement, Man Utd said: "Manchester United can confirm that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

"We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career."

90min understands that West Ham remain interested in bringing Lingard back to the London Stadium - where he scored nine times in 16 games - having failed to re-sign him last summer, and talks have been held with the player's representatives.

However, there are other club's circling the 29-year-old, including heavyweight Serie A trio AC Milan, Inter and Juventus, as well as Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Newcastle had been regarded as clear favourites to sign Lingard, but the Magpies have baulked at his wages and backed away from the negotiating table for the time being.
