Manchester United Hold Talks With Bayern Munich Over Kingsley Coman Deal

Manchester United have identified Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman as a potential transfer target, and have already held talks with the Frenchman's representatives.

The Red Devils are primarily focused on landing Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho this summer, but the size of any deal has made things more than a little complicated. Dortmund want in excess of £100m but United are eager to avoid surpassing the club-record £89m spent on Paul Pogba.

United are still focused on landing Sancho

Christian Falk has previously revealed that Dortmund have set a deadline of 10 August for any deal to be done, and with the clock slowly ticking down, United have started looking at potential alternative signings.

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey and Schalke's Rabbi Matondo are two of several names to have been suggested, and United's Bundesliga scouts are clearly working overtime as The Athletic's Andy Mitten states that Coman has emerged as a potential candidate.

It's acknowledged that Sancho is still the dream signing, but United have already held talks with Coman's representatives over a potential move and it is understood that the 24-year-old is interested in the idea of heading to Old Trafford to link up with fellow Parisians Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

Coman is open to joining United

He is aware that the recent arrival of Leroy Sané from Manchester City will limit his minutes next season, with Serge Gnabry expected to take up the spot on the right wing, so moving somewhere for first-team football would appeal to Coman.

Under contract until 2023, Coman would likely still command a hefty fee, but when compared to the astronomical cost of any deal for Sancho, the Frenchman could be relatively affordable.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to make a handful of signings to fire his squad towards title contention. Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is high on the wish list and a new centre-back is also expected to be in the plans, so saving some money in the pursuit of a winger might be a smart move.

However, United's focus remains on Sancho. Solskjaer is desperate to recruit the Englishman, but alternative plans are being made in case signing the Dortmund man is impossible.
