United are in the market for a top class forward after shipping out Robin van Persie and opting not to retain on loan striker Radamel Falcao, with World Cup winner Thomas Muller at the top of manager Louis van Gaal's transfer list.

Van Gaal has previous with Muller, managing the German international as Bayern Munich manager between 2009-2011, with the pair known to have a 'special' relationship.

And now, Bild are reporting that Manchester United have bid £70million as they look to secure a move for the 25-year-old.

Bild say that the United hierarchy are looking to take advantage of Muller's reportedly 'strained' relationship with Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.

They go on to state Muller has grown frustrated with his role within the Bayern squad, feeling undervalued after being regularly hauled off before full-time by former Barcelona boss Guardiola.

However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that the only player leaving Munich for United this summer would be Bastian Schweinsteiger.

“I can totally reassure all the fans we will issue no further players more towards Manchester United,”

Muller's agent, Ludwig Kogl, followed Rummenigge with a statement of his own, looking to play down talk of a potential move to the Premier League.

“I do not want to participate

Thomas plays for Bayern and has a contract with Bayern.”

United's current strike force consists of only two senior strikers in the form of Wayne Rooney and the returning Javier Hernandez

Youngster James Wilson is an option but his inexperience will be a concern for van Gaal.
