Manchester United in 'Advanced Talks' With Jadon Sancho as They Prepare £80m Bid

Manchester United have entered 'advanced talks' with Jadon Sancho as they prepare to submit an official £80m bid to Borussia Dortmund.

United have been chasing the forward for some time and he remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's top target as he looks to reshape his squad. Sancho has been in fine form this season, racking up 40 goal contributions in just 44 appearances in all competitions.

Sancho may have played his last game for Dortmund

According to 'transfer expert' Nicolo Schira, the Red Devils have made progress when negotiating with the 20-year-old but the two clubs remain some way away from agreeing a transfer fee.

If United can secure Champions League football, they will table an £80m bid, according to the Express.

However, Dortmund are holding out for considerably more than this with Schira reporting that the Bundesliga runners-up want as much as €120m (£109.4m). If a fee is to be agreed it is likely to that United will be forced to smash their current transfer record of around £89m, which they paid Juventus for Paul Pogba in 2016.

Despite this, the deal is likely to be completed. 90min reported as far back as September that United were confident of completing a move for the England international in 2020 and even amid the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic the club's assurance has never wavered.

Sancho himself is keen on the move and his enthusiasm will not be dampened even in the unlikely case of Solskjaer's side missing out on Champions League football next season. This is evidence by his refusal to extend his deal past its current 2022 expiration date.

United are also one of only a handful of clubs that could afford Sancho in the current climate. Though Woodward is sceptical of paying a fee in excess of £100m in the current climate, the Red Devils could afford to do so if needs be.
