Manchester United Lose and Beat West Brom in Back-to-Back Friendlies

Manchester United stepped up their preparations for the Premier League's return next week by taking on West Bromwich Albion in two back-to-back friendlies at Old Trafford.

United lost the first match, but got their revenge in the second fixture by securing a 3-1 win. That's a victory on aggregate, if you're counting.

Bruno Fernandes - who has seriously impressed since arriving from Sporting CP in January - featured in the opening game and had an eventful afternoon. According to The United Stand, the midfielder both scored and missed a penalty as the Red Devils fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Paul Pogba is understood to have featured alongside Fernandes, in what was the first glance at a midfield pairing that has been tipped to propel the club to success.

In the second game, a brace from Andreas Pereira and a goal from Tahith Chong helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to a 3-1 victory. The club even decided to post some highlights for this one - but not in chronological order, so much of this game remains a mystery.

What we do know is that Chong capitalised on some dordling from former United man Sam Johnstone, nicking the ball from the Baggies keeper and tapping in from close range.

One of Pereira's goals was also included in the highlights package, with the Belgian born Brazilian latching onto Fred's probing through ball and nutmegging Johnstone to make it 1-0, or 2-0, or 3-0, or 1-1 or... you get the picture.

Another even better strike was posted on the club's Twitter account, Pereira curling an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Solskjaer will be hoping that the friendlies have suitably prepared his squad for their Premier League return against Tottenham next Friday. The game will see Spurs boss José Mourinho lock horns with his former club and the result could have big implications in the race for Champions League qualification.
