Manchester United to Pursue a New Centre-Back Amid 'Concerns' Over Victor Lindelof

Manchester United are likely to pursue a new centre-back to provide competition for Victor Lindelof in the summer.

The 25-year-old has only missed three games in the Premier League this season, forming a relatively solid partnership with Harry Maguire - the most expensive defender of all time. Overall, Lindelof has made more than 100 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Benfica at the beginning of the 2016/17 season.

However, according to ESPN, there are 'concerns' over the Swede's form and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep him on his toes by bolstering the United ranks,

One possible target is Real Valladolid's Mohammed Salisu who has impressed in La Liga this season. The 21-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the club owned by Brazilian legend Ronaldo. Incredibly, the Ghana international is also thought to have a €12m (£10.42m) release clause, meaning he represents excellent value.

News of this interest could signal the end of Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling's United careers. The pair have spent the season out on loan and Smalling is understood to be a target for several Premier League clubs including the soon-to-be monied Newcastle.

Before they consider signing a new centre-back, United remain committed to strengthening in attacking areas. This is well known with intermediaries and agents being discouraged from pitching defenders to the club.

Jadon Sancho is at the very top of their hit list. The former Manchester City has been in incredible form for Borussia Dortmund this season, registering 14 goals and 16 assists in just 23 Bundesliga appearances.

Solskjaer will be backed in the transfer market - despite the financial uncertainty in the wake of the coronavirus crisis - and 90min has been told that a deal for Sancho will go ahead in the summer.
