Marcos Rojo Set for Estudiantes Loan as Man Utd Struggle to Find Buyer

Manchester United outcast Marcos Rojo looks set to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window and return on loan to his first club Estudiantes.

The 29-year-old has been a peripheral figure for the Red Devils this season, making only three league appearances, and coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided the Argentine is no longer part of his plans for the future.

Rojo is desperate for a move away from the Premier League giants, and The Mirror reports that the defender has been given the green light to join Argentinian side Estudiantes on loan until the end of the season.

Former Red Devils midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron is the current chairman of Estudiantes.

The centre back was keen to complete a permanent split from United in the winter window, but they failed to find a club that was willing to sign Rojo on a long-term deal.

Rojo still has 18 months on his current contract at Old Trafford and maintains the option to extend his deal by an extra year.

United signed the Argentina international from Portuguese side Sporting CP in 2014 in a deal worth around £16m. Rojo has since made 122 appearances in all competitions for Solskjaer's side, but he has failed to convince anyone at the club of his credentials as an elite defender.

Rojo's departure will leave United relying heavily on first-choice centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, unless the Manchester club dip into the transfer market in the coming days.

Solskjaer had previously spoken about his desire to freshen up his squad, but the Red Devils are yet to bring any new faces into the fold. Despite sitting fifth in the Premier League table, United have conceded 29 goals in 24 matches, and their most recent outing saw them suffer a shock 2-0 home defeat to Burnley, deepening their Norwegian boss' concerns.
