Marcus Rashford rejects talk of manager rift and admits 'pure relief' at Spurs victory

Marcus Rashford has hit back at claims he was frustrated to start Manchester United's 3-0 win over Tottenham as a substitute, insisting he felt nothing but pure relief from the result.

Rashford, who is slowly making his way back from shoulder surgery, was dropped to the bench for the game as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted for a 3-5-2 formation to give his side more strength at the back, although he did enter for the final 20 minutes and managed to bag his side's third late on.

His celebration for the goal was somewhat muted, kicking the ball into the back of the net again before jogging away with his arms held wide - an act Owen Hargreaves claimed (via the Daily Mail) was a sign of 'frustration' towards Solskjaer's decision to leave him out of the starting lineup.

Rashford was having none of that and later took to Twitter to reveal what he was really thinking during his celebration.

"Fuming at the manager??!" he wrote. "We won the game.

"That celebration was pure relief! It's been a hard week..."

The 24-year-old had started for United in their previous game, the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, after which Solskjaer found himself under immense pressure and every player was being scrutinised for a perceived lack of effort, talent or fitness - or all of the above.

Fortunately for United, they came out with an emphatic response as they thumped Tottenham 3-0, leading to the departure of Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo early on Monday.

Nuno is now expected to be replaced by former Inter boss Antonio Conte, who had been tipped to join United if Solskjaer lost his job.
