Mason Greenwood remains on bail amid ongoing police investigation

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood remains on bail following his arrest on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill.

Greenwood was arrested in January when police were made aware of ‘social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence’.

United immediately confirmed that the 20-year-old would not train or be available for selection until further notice, which still remains the case.

Greenwood was released from custody on bail at the start of February. The latest bail hearing took place on Thursday, which does impact the progression of the ongoing police investigations.

At this stage, Greenwood has not been formally charged by police but is still under investigation over the extremely serious allegations.

A Greater Manchester Police statement read: “Following a hearing yesterday, a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on Sunday 30 January 2022 remains on bail.

“As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action.”
