MATCH OF THE WORLD CUP?

Van der Sar:

"Without doubt, the World Cup is the biggest thing you can win.

"It is bigger than the Champions League. That competition is held every year, there is always a winner. It is the same with the domestic championships.

"The World Cup is every four years and no-one from Holland has ever won it, so it is easy to understand what an achievement it would be.

"As a boy, you just want to be a professional footballer, then you want to play for the biggest club side, then you want to play for your country.

"But I have been involved with the Holland squad for 11 years now, so I was quite determined to break Frank's record and maybe I have been a little bit more focussed than usual in getting through to the second round."

Ruud:

"We want to finish No 1 in the group and we also want to see where we are with the team. Every game has been a test so far and Argentina will be an even bigger one."

"If you had to play Argentina knowing you had to win it, it would be such a difficult thing to go for. The way Argentina are playing - wow. While we were preparing for our match we watched the beginning of the game and the end and we were very impressed.

"We knew that we had to beat Ivory Coast because we didn't want to go into the final Group match needing to beat Argentina.

"We'll play Argentina to win but to reach the last 16 out of such a difficult Group was a great achievement.

"Argentina will be very hard and then we have to wait and see. We've played some good stuff but we can't be over-confident."

About facing Heinze:

" He's always a fierce competitor. Oh yeah, and more."

He talks of rehabilitation:

"The season didn't end very well for me. But I'm happy at the World Cup with this team. I prepared myself well and I think our performances have showed that. I have two years left on my contract. If the situation changes I will find out about it, otherwise I will be going back to Manchester.

"But it's been great for me to come to the World Cup. The goal meant a lot to me. To score my first World Cup goal in a big game like this. As a child, you dream about these things. Van Basten wasn't a bad player and it's a real inspiration for me to work with him. You learn so much. It's incredible to be a part of this. The support is amazing. The stadiums are completely orange. It lifts us so much."
