Matthijs de Ligt insists Erik ten Hag will 'do everything' to succeed at Man Utd

Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has tipped his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag to be a success at new club Manchester United.

Ten Hag has replaced Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford dugout this summer and is already getting to work to rebuild United after a bitterly disappointing campaign which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League with their lowest points total in the history of the division.

It's undoubtedly a hefty task but it's one for which De Ligt believes Ten Hag has all the qualities needed to succeed.

"He is someone who loves his job and he loves to work," De Ligt explained. "He’s really into the details. This makes him a really good trainer.

"He has a lot of qualities [to succeed]. We will have to see how he goes."

De Ligt added: "He definitely improves players. He wants to do everything to make his team play better."

90min understands that Ten Hag and assistant Steve McClaren are both determined to rejuvenate Marcus Rashford, who has made it clear that he does not want to leave Old Trafford this summer and would prefer to re-establish himself as a key player for club and country.

De Ligt was also asked about another former Ajax man, close friend Frenkie de Jong, who has been tipped to leave Barcelona this summer for a reunion with Ten Hag at United, but he insisted he did not have much to say.

"He’s an amazing player and everybody knows how important he is for the team," De Ligt said of the midfielder. But he’s not said anything [about a transfer]"
