Mauricio Pochettino will urge Manchester United to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane if he takes over in the Old Trafford dugout this summer.
United will appoint a new permanent boss before the start of the 2022/23 season and Pochettino is understood to be one of the leading candidates, with a number of United players keen to see the former Spurs boss hired.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that PSG are planning to part ways with Pochettino in the summer, with Zinedine Zidane lined up as their dream replacement.
Should Pochettino find his way to United,The Telegraph believe that he will do his best to convince his new employers to organise a reunion with Kane, who has been admired by those in charge at Old Trafford for what feels like an eternity.
The bond between Pochettino and Kane is no secret. The Argentine boss played a huge part in Kane's rise towards the top of the mountain of great strikers in world football and the feeling is that he would relish the chance to reunite with Pochettino once again.
By the time this summer arrives, Kane will have just two years remaining on the six-year deal he penned during the Pochettino era and it will be the last chance for Spurs to cash in on Kane for his full value - assuming he does not sign a surprise extension. Manchester City failed with a £130m bid for Kane last summer, with Spurs holding out for £150m.
Kane has confessed to enjoying life at Tottenham once again, crediting Antonio Conte for helping him get back to his best, but the reality of the situation remains. The England captain, who will be 29 before the new season stars, wants to win silverware and Conte has openly admitted that Spurs are a long way away from being competitive.
Pochettino would look to take advantage of that if he joins United, and his desire to sign Kane would likely be backed by Ralf Rangnick. Currently the interim boss, Rangnick will take up a consultancy role at the end of the season, when he has confessed that United will look to sign a new striker.
"This is obvious," Rangnick told a press conference when asked if United will look for a new forward. "Edinson [Cavani]'s contract is running out in the summer, and the club needs the best possible centre forward. This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that."
