The 30-year-old is one of United's top targets this summer as boss Louis van Gaal looks to bring one of his former chargers to the team he will try and transform into Premier League contenders.

Schweinsteiger's current deal with Bayern expires in 2016, with no contract extension in sight, leading to increased speculation that a £7.5million deal for the players transfer to Manchester United could become a reality.

Tying up a deal for Schweinsteiger would see United finally 'get their man', with the club courting the midfielder for a number of years now.

Former Bayern Munich player and manager Franz Beckenbauer has spoke out against the potential move, suggesting instead that Schweinsteiger move to the MLS in 'one of two years'.

"I would advise him not to go to England

He can stay here as well

This challenge, at his age, itÂ’s not what he needs.

“I would play one or two more years in Munich, at this high level

"And then, if he still wants to and if he still feels like playing football is the thing, he can make a step back and maybe go to the USA.
