Milan in talks over Alessandro Florenzi loan after failing to agree Diogo Dalot deal

AC Milan are closing in on the loan signing of Roma and Italy right-back Alessandro Florenzi, having failed to come to an agreement with Manchester United to secure Diogo Dalot for another season.

Milan had also been interested in Real defender Alvaro Odriozola, before turning to Florenzi.

Having not played for the club since January 2020 and spending the last 18 months out on loan at Valencia and Paris Saint-Germain, Florenzi is not thought to have a future at Roma.

But he could have an escape route, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Milan have made contact in recent days and are in talks with Roma to negotiate a deal.

The prospective transfer would initially be a loan, including an obligation to buy next summer if certain conditions are met. It is said that Roma initially preferred an outright sale, but Milan were not keen and it is only now that the Giallorossi have softened their stance that talks can progress.

Roma are said to be specifically seeking conditions that will be easy to meet, while Florenzi himself is believed to be open to joining Milan, who finished second in Serie A last season and will now be competing in the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

As mentioned, Milan were initially focused on Dalot and Odriozola to strengthen, but were unable to reach an agreement with Manchester United or Real Madrid respectively.

Dalot spent last season on loan at San Siro and played 33 times in all competitions. However, he has since returned to his parent club and has been involved with the first-team during pre-season.

Odriozola, meanwhile, spent much of last season injured or on the bench at Real, although most of his La Liga starts actually came towards the end of the campaign.
