'For the first 20 minutes it was almost too good to be true. It is one of the best periods of play I have been involved in for a long time.

'We have a game against Chelsea at the end of the month, which I am sure people will look at closely but I think we all realise it is very early days for that kind of talk.

'We are a lot more consistent now.

'All we can do is look after ourselves. If we can continue to play that level of football, we will be really happy. The confidence is sky-high at the moment.

'Last season, we continued to play well over the last few months, even though we had nothing to play for.

'We have continued that form this season and just got stronger and stronger.

'There are a lot of matches and a lot of points to play for yet before we start counting ourselves in the championship race.

'But we have given ourselves a great chance purely by the fact we are not 12 points behind already, as we have been in the last two seasons.'

Giggs:

'Our squad is strong enough. We have two or three players for each position which is what you want with so many big games throughout the season. The important thing is not to suffer too many injuries or have too many players out through suspension. Providing we have more or less a full squad available, I am sure we can cope. But we know we can't afford too many mistakes in the title race.

'We got close to Chelsea last year and we hope we'll get even closer to them this time. We know we needed to put together a good run from the start and be consistent throughout the season. The most promising thing is that the young lads have come into the first team and performed well. So many of our players were involved in the World Cup and didn't have a lot of games to get ready for the new season but the lads looked sharp straight away.

'I think when we have been successful in the past everyone has contributed with goals. We've not really relied on one person. Obviously Ruud scored a lot of goals but I hope we can all chip in this season. It doesn't matter who scores as long as we get the right results.'
